Systems Change

LC4 works to change the way systems work in order to reduce barriers to care that contribute to late diagnosis and increased morbidity and mortality. The Latino Cancer Collaborative has been instrumental in building specific programs and services tailored to the cultural and linguistic needs of the Spanish-speaking population in Contra Costa County. Programs such as Spanish-language support groups, screening campaigns and hospital navigation were not available in the community. The efforts increased organizational and institutional awareness of how organizational practices and cultural and language competence can contribute to inequities in care.

LC4 strategies are targeted to reduce barriers to care and link services across institutions, organizations and programs to support a more seamless response. Collaborative staff works directly with community partners and within public and private healthcare settings to improve how care is delivered to minority, underserved and limited English clients.
