Cancer screenings for breast, cervical, colon and prostate cancer are available at La Clinica de La Raza at free or low cost for anyone regardless of insurance or legal status. For information, call (925) 431-1259 (Pittsburg) or (925) 363-2016 (Monument).

Community members attend a series of workshops to develop leadership, organizational, and communication skills. The Escuela serves as a starting point to build a team of community members, who are interested in addressing health issues that affect them, their families and their neighbors. Once trained, the Promotores attend weekly meetings where they receive ongoing trainings to conduct cancer health education presentations, plan workshops for community groups and organize health-related activities and actions. The Wellness Community offers support groups, educational programs and mind/body programs in Spanish, led by our bilingual, bicultural facilitator. These programs provide a place for families to come together to learn more about coping with cancer and manage treatment and recovery together as effectively as possible.

Patient Navigators provide medical interpretation, referrals, health insurance information and related services for women undergoing screening at Contra Costa County health facilities. A nurse case manager and a navigator provide case management services for Latinas undergoing treatment at the County Regional Medical Center Cancer Center for breast and cervical cancer. The Women’s Cancer Resource Center’s patient care manager provides medical interpretation, one to one education and cancer support services at the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center Cancer Center, other local hospitals and links with the Patient Navigator program to provide case management to women with cancers other than breast or cervical cancer.
