Accomplishments
Through the SSWCI, the Latino Cancer Collaborative has:
- Provided outreach to thousands of Latinos throughout Contra Costa County at health fairs, special screening events, through our social marketing campaigns on the radio, on TV and in print Spanish media, in buses and in the community.
- Trained more than 100 community members as Promotores – community health promoters who have special classes about cancer and spread the word in the community about the importance of early detection and where to find help.
- Increased screening of uninsured women for breast and cervical cancer at local community clinics
- Provided community education programs on breast, cervical and colon cancer for hundreds of Latinos
- Navigated thousands of women annually through the county system during cancer screening and diagnostics
- Provided case management and survivorship support services for 150 – 300 women diagnosed with cancer each year
